Description:
This new course has been developed in response to requests from clinicians and teachers who were interested in attending an advanced course on the link between sensory processing and behavior, and strategies for managing challenging behaviors. Developing strategies for managing challenging behaviors in students with disabilities consumes much time and effort, often without significant results. Supporting lasting, positive behavior change requires delving deeper into numerous issues surrounding the student and educational environment including sensory processing, communication and the functions of behavior. This course will discuss foundational issues and provide a framework and model for developing positive behavior strategies. Participants will be given an opportunity for guided practice in using the model provided.
Who Should Attend:
This is an intermediate level presentation for OT.s, PT.s, SLP.s, teachers, social workers, counselors, psychologists, administrators, parents and others interested in increasing their knowledge in the education of students with special needs.
