About the Speaker:
Jami Growney is an Occupational Therapist with over 15 years experience in a variety of settings. She has provided inpatient, outpatient and home-based therapy with both adult and pediatric clients. While at Children.s Mercy Hospital, Jami provided outpatient, home-based therapy, contract services for a preschool program and was the primary therapist for the Spinal Defects Clinic. She later worked for TherapyWorks where she provided outpatient and home-based pediatric therapy and contracted with local Birth to 3 and Special Education preschool programs. For the past five years, pursuing her strong passion for feeding therapy, she has worked at her .most favorite job of all. contracting with the Birth to 3 program in Johnson County, KS. Jami serves an exclusive caseload of children with primary and secondary feeding dysfunction, often with the multiply medically fragile. She feels her services are optimally provided within the clients. natural environments, and may include a diverse cultural clientele. Jami is respected as an expert in problem solving with children with severe feeding challenges who have not responded to typical approaches. Jami.s goal for this presentation is to improve the competency of professionals working with children with health and feeding obstacles, and move their clients toward happy mealtime routines!
Description:
This course is designed to provide the participant with techniques to increase nutrition and food consumption for the infant or young child. Not only are there sensory, oral-motor, or behavioral concerns that contribute to a child.s refusal to eat, but there are other factors to consider as well. Course content will also include respiratory issues, food allergies, ENT issues, GI issues and environmental obstacles as well as NG/G-tube issues for growth, reflux and treatment ideas.
Who Should Attend:
Professionals (primarily Speech-Language Pathologists and Occupational Therapists and Assistants) who are involved in feeding, assessment and intervention of infants and young children in the home or clinic setting. This course may also be of value to Physical Therapists, Teachers, Dietitians, and other professionals who want to learn more about feeding management in infants and young children.
