About the Speaker:
Kristen LaCrosse, PT is a 1994 graduate of Cleveland State University. She has spent the last 11 years working in an acute care hospital, skilled nursing unit and an assisted/independent living facility. She has taken special interest in staff and patient/family education, as well as helping low-level patients realize their full potential and restoring their dignity.
Description:
Participants will gain an understanding of why their patients may be reluctant to participate in therapy. We will discuss ways in which we can increase their confidence in ourselves, set appropriate goals for those whose progress is slow, and discuss treatment options for confused patients. These skills will assist with empowering them to perform to the best of their ability. After a brief review of current medical terminology and equipment, we will discuss treatment options for very weak and debilitated patients and touch on such some difficult diagnoses. This may help answer the question, "Where do I start with this person?"
Who Should Attend:
This is an introductory level course targeting Physical and Occupational Therapist and Assitants, and Speech Language Pathologists and Assistants. Any other itnerested health care professionals who would like to improve their effectiveness with difficult patients are welcome to attend.
